It was a very different time in the 1980s when President Ronald Reagan said of the relationship with the United States and the then-Soviet Union that one should “trust but verify.”
Now the mantra is “never trust, always verify” due to a world where silent threats lurk in just about every encounter people have with computers, mobile devices, and other electronics.
The zero trust security principle is based on this “never trust, always verify” approach and it is increasingly becoming more and more important in our world that is dominated by cyberthreats. By treating everything as a potential threat, the zero-trust approach ensures that organizations – and their people – are getting the maximum amount of protection from nefarious sources.
Zscaler and Peraton work closely together to bring this principle to life for government customers in ways that combine user access and secure connections. As a cloud-based zero-trust provider, Zscaler offers a unique solution to secure users, applications, and data. Peraton incorporates the Zscaler offering for both internal company uses and as part of government customer solutions.
Recently, Peraton’s Jeff Berlet – the senior technology director for the company’s Cyber Mission Sector – has been speaking on various panels discussing the value of zero-trust, with a nod toward Zscaler as a solution to be integrated into a robust offering for customers.
“The zero-trust principle represents a more secure architectural approach to addressing the challenges posed by modern AI-assisted cyberattacks,” said Berlet, adding that it “introduces innovative solutions for IoT and operational technologies within critical infrastructure sectors such as healthcare, transportation, and energy, supporting missions that directly impact the daily lives of citizens.”
Berlet notes that zero-trust facilitates enhanced innovation and accelerates the deployment of new capabilities by ensuring they are developed and implemented within a robust and secure environment.
And it is this innovation that will allow those who work in the zero-trust environment to more rapidly develop products and services to meet customer needs that ultimately are staying one step ahead of those bad actors seeking to do others harm.
