Peraton’s Defense Mission and Health Solutions Sector played a central role in the successful development and launch of myAuth, a next-generation identity management pilot introduced by the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) earlier this summer. This high-priority government project runs alongside the legacy DS Logon system, which served the Department of Defense (DoD) community for nearly 20 years. The launch of myAuth marks a significant advancement in providing secure, user-friendly access to key DoD applications. At the core of myAuth is a desire to combine security and lessons learned from the legacy systems to create an innovative path forward.
The myAuth system integrates advanced technology to strengthen both usability and security. Built in partnership with Okta, a leader in identity and access management, myAuth leverages third-party software as a service (SaaS) technology, biometric authentication, dynamic risk analysis, and real-time fraud prevention capabilities. These tools enable secure nonpublic key infrastructure (PKI) authentication and represent a major step forward in DoD’s digital modernization efforts.
With its launch, myAuth extends Authenticator Assurance Level 3 (AAL3) security to the entire DoD user base—not just common access card (CAC) cardholders. It introduces streamlined login features, such as the password-less FastPass option, while also enhancing traditional username and password access with modern fraud detection, such as multiple, verifiable identity factors.
This project faced the complex challenge of building a secure, scalable platform for a diverse, global user base that includes service members, veterans, families, and individuals with limited access to technology. The Peraton team redesigned existing architecture, implemented an intuitive self-service help interface, and delivered a robust solution under tight timelines.
