Wireless Technology Improves Healthcare for Veterans

Peraton provides secure access to voice, video, data, and advanced medical devices so medical professionals are always connected.

Modern medical centers rely on electronic health and other information systems and need dependable, secure access to voice, video, data, and real-time location services (RTLS). U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities are no exception, and Peraton helps them meet a special challenge with its delivery of the VA’s National Wireless Infrastructure (Wi-Fi) program, a world-class wireless, location-based infrastructure that serves 112 VA medical centers (VAMCs) nationwide.

All VAMCs share a vision and mission, but each medical center is unique, with distinct requirements. Mastering the complex interplay of design, security, and accessibility requirements at each location demanded rigorous application of mature processes. Peraton’s highly-skilled, nationwide workforce was up to the task. The resulting network is robust and resilient and meets the standards of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). By designing the system to handle increased capacity over time and incorporate new devices, our solution ensures reliable, secure access to the systems essential to the VA’s mission of providing quality healthcare to our nation’s veterans. From logistics, warehousing, and supply-chain management to training and sustainment, Peraton’s deep expertise proved the right match for the challenges posed by this large-scale initiative.
